Wessex Area Awards - half-time update and standings plus details of this years Awards Evening
The season is now half way through so here’s an update (up to and including 16th Feb) of those all-important standings in the Wessex Awards which are presented at the Awards Evening on Saturday 28th June.
Spillers sponsored Awards
In the Leading Trainer (10+) Award Harry Ryall (who has increased the size of his string since winning the 9- Award for the last two years) has jumped into a clear lead over Will Biddick and Chris Barber who has dominated this award for the last four seasons. The smaller string Award is currently led by Stuart Sampson from Bea Coward and Harriet Waight
There is all change too in the leading Men’s Rider title with James King in the lead over Will Biddick (winner of 12 out of the last 13 awards) with Robbie David (who also leads the Dick & Sue Woodhouse Award) and Charlie Sprake in 3rd.
The Ladies title too is hotting up with Olive Nicholls an early front runner however that may have changed this last weekend with Lily Bradstock winning again at Badbury Rings (results have yet to be updated) with Anna Johnston snapping at her heels too after a win there.
The Novice Riders was headed by James Shaw up until Badbury but a win there by Rian Corcoran will change that while Grace A Vous Enki still clings to the Leading Owner award but hasn’t been seen out since December so may be catchable.
Other Awards include the Brian Armstrong/ Peter Maunsell Novice Horse award which is currently split between Noble Blue, Snap Fish and The Village Way all on two wins a piece. The Wincanton Novice Horse Championship has Stan Rawlins’ Crawter just in the lead from Snap Fish.
The Greenslade Taylor Hunt Trophy is a tie between two who won Opens at the South Dorset – Moytier who won the Ladies and Take All who won the Mens. Jack Veysey looks to have shot to the top of the leaderboard for the John Dufosee Trophy for the leading owner/rider with his win at Badbury Rings last weekend.
