With only four meetings left to run in the Wessex Area, the Championships standings are really hotting up with several significant changes to the leaderboards! Results are on the Pointing Wessex website (click on Championships and are up to Monday 6th April).

The Spillers Leading Large Trainers title has flip-flopped with Will Biddick squeezing up the rail to push 2 points clear of title holder Chris Barber with Josh Newman back in third in the larger string category.  In the smaller string division, Bea Coward stillleads Rachel Bartlett with Mike Felton in third spot.

Jockey Josh Newman is 5 points ahead of his old adversary, James King for the Spillers Men’s Rider title but with Ed Doggrell close up in third.

The Spillers Ladies Title is now led by Aimee Jones although Anna Johnston is only 3 points behind her while Lucy Mager has leapt into third.  The Spillers Novice Rider’s title too is a close match with Jack Stenhouse overtaking Freddie Philipson-Stow while Lucas Murphy is joined by Aimee Jones back in third.

Joan Hitchings’ Grace a Vous Enki is dominating the Spillers Leading Owner as he does at Larkhill and could be hard to beat this year. Second is Crawter co-owned by Stan Rawlins and Harriet Waight while Peter and Kathy Musgrave’s Ninth Wave has joined him.

Other Awards which could be fought out at the remaining meetings are the Brian Armstrong and Peter Mansell Memorial Trophy which has Carrillo in first place and only one point clear from Dollanstown.  The Wincanton Novice Championship is also currently led by Carrillo with Dollanstown in second with Tourmaline yet to have points from Dunsmore added.

The Greenslade Taylor Hunt Trophy is a two way tie between Ninth Wave who’s just been joined by Far Out West while Lavorante has slipped to third.  Ivor Herbert is now tied with Lucy Mager for  the John Dufosee Trophy from brother Milo Herbert, Lucy Pickford and Douglas White while Josh Newman has already secured the Dick & Sue Woodhouse Trophy.

Keep checking the website for updates and we hope all of those who are mentioned are available to come to the Awards evening on Saturday 4th July in its brand new venue of Wincanton Racecourse (full details on the Wessex website) as there are prizes for the first three in each of the Spillers awards so bring your friends too as it’s a great evening!!
