February Wessex PPSA Moment of the Month sponsored by Tanners Wine Co
With three Point to Points in February the moment came at the final meeting at Badbury Rings when a home bred horse, owned and trained on its own at home by its breeder Martin Peaty, won the Conditions race by 13 lengths.
Boygojumping’s dam was an unregistered mare on whom Martin had his first race ride in the Wilton members race. The bug was born, and the 6 year old’s record now is 4 wins from 16 starts; placings include a 2nd in the Exeter PtP Bumper.
Why is this the moment of the month? Martin is the senior partner at Barn Equine and does Swallow (his stable name) without help, all his exercising and schooling takes place before work and probably in the dark! Until last year Martin was his race jockey as well but now that role has been handed over to George Hiscock.
It shows that the ethos of a small one man operation can still be successful in the modern world of point to pointing.
Martin will be presented his bottle of Champagne at the New Forest meeting Sun 17th March where he is one of the veterinary team on duty.
