The Wessex Point to Point Area was saddened to learn of the passing of Jeff Fear on the 12th April at the age of 82. Our sincere condolences are extended to his widow Marian, his four children and grandchildren. His funeral will take place at Mark Church near Bridgwater on Saturday 17th May at 2.30pm

Jeff was a farmer and  a true hunting and point to point enthusiast and a long-standing secretary of the Weston and Banwell Harriers point to point until his retirement several years ago.

Jeff was an owner/trainer/rider who continued riding into his 40’s aboard his home bred mare Shrimbelle who raced over 30 times although towards the end of her career he had handed over the reins to others. She reappeared at the age of 17 to finish third in her Hunt race at Cothelstone under Jeremy Young.

Jeff then acquired the mare Florence Mary at Ascot in 2011 from Nick Pearce and she proceeded to win three races for him, once for Sarah Gould and twice for Lucy Mager in a career spanning 50 races. She was also ridden by Gina Andrews in a Restricted Race at Bratton Down in June 2013 when she finished fifth behind Bathwick Scanno.

Jeff’s final horse was the mare Elizabeth’s Wish who was owned in partnership with  her trainer Emma Mellor. She gave him two victories the first at Great Trethew under Chris Barber and then at Ston Easton when she was partnered by Martin ‘Fly’ McIntyre in March 2018.

He will be fondly remembered at the forthcoming Weston and Banwell and West Somerset Vale point to point due to be held at Wednesday 14th May at Cothelstone.
