(Ninth Wave who is in contention for the Greenslade Taylor Hunt trophy)
With three meetings left to run in the Wessex Area the Championships standings are still all to play for! Results are on this website (click on Championships and are shown up to 29th March).
The two Spillers Leading Trainers titles are hotting up with title holder Chris Barber only 8 points clear of Will Biddick with Josh Newman back in third in the larger string category. In the smaller string division, Bea Coward leads Rachel Bartlett with Mike Felton in third spot.
Jockey Josh Newman is 5 points ahead of his old adversary, James King for the Spillers Men’s Rider title but with Ed Doggrell close up in third.
The Spillers Ladies Title is led by Anna Johnston although Aimee Jones is only 1 point behind her while Lily Bradstock and Molly Armytage share third.
The Spillers Novice Rider’s title too is a close match with Freddie Philipson-Stow just leading Jack Stenhouse with overall National Novice leader, Lucas Murphy in third.
Grace a Vous Enki is dominating the Spillers Leading Owner as he does at Larkhill and could be hard to beat this year. Second is Stan Rawlins’ Crawter while Carrillo, Dorset Dazzler, Follow My Order and Ultimate Survivor all vie for third.
Other Awards which could be fought out at the remaining meetings are the Brian Armstrong and Peter Maunsell Memorial Trophy which has Carrillo in first place and eight points clear from Follow My Order and Dorset Dazzler. The Wincanton Novice Championship is currently led by Carrillo with Tourmaline in second.
The Greenslade Taylor Hunt Trophy is a two way tie between Ninth Wave and Lavorante but four are snapping at their heels – Al Gasparo, Duc de Bourbon, Emotional Roller and Shang Tang. Ivor Herbert leads the John Dufosee Trophy from brother Milo Herbert, Lucy Pickford and Douglas White while Josh Newman has secured the Dick & Sue Woodhouse Trophy.
Keep checking the website for updates and we hope all of those who are mentioned are available to come to the Awards evening on Saturday 4th July in its brand new venue of Wincanton Racecourse (full details on the Wessex website) as there are prizes for the first three in each of the Spillers awards so bring your friends too as it’s a great evening!!
