The Taunton Vale Point-to-Point on Easter Monday near Kingston St Mary is a highlight on the area's social and sporting calendar which is guaranteed to be packed with thrills and spills.

With an Easter egg giveaway for the first one hundred children through the gate, face paining, inflatable rides and food stands laden with local fare, people from across the generations will be heading to the popular event.

This year’s point-to-point will coincide with a special collection by the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution for the farmers on the Somerset Levels who have been affected by the winter floods.

Clerk of the course Richard Mitford-Slade explained: “The farmers are great supporters of the two hunts running the point-to-point and the very least we can do is show them some support. It’s a really super day out, where everyone comes together to enjoy a day out in the fresh air, watching exciting racing and catching up with friends. We’re hoping a good few of them will be flexing their muscles and taking part in our raceday tug of war competition!”

Easter Monday Family Raceday has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where all the racing can be viewed from great viewing points. There’s also a  chance to meet hounds, peruse the trade stands, sup on a pint in the beer tent, have a flutter on the horses, and catch up with friends.

Entrance to the point-to-point is just £20 per car load of four, £5 per additional person, single occupant £10, children 12 and under free, which makes it a fantastic value for money day out in the countryside.

Richard said: “Going to a point-to-point offers incredible value for money. At our meeting there is always a really fantastic atmosphere with a lot of families enjoying their picnics and racing. It’s a lovely social day out for everyone.”

To enjoy the fun head to Kingston St Mary (postcode TA2 8AS) on Monday, April 21  when the first race will be underway at 1pm.
