The attractive setting of Chilfrome just outside Maiden Newton off the A356 is the venue of the Cattistock point to point to be held on Easter Saturday. There will be six point to point races on offer following two pony races which are due off at 1.00pm with the first point to point race at 2.00pm. The current going report is soft, good to soft in places . There will be a licensed bar, local food outlets, bookmakers and children’s entertainment.

The meeting begins with a Conditions race for which twelve horses have been entered. Punches Cross was a good winner for owner Michael Sweetland and jockey Will Biddick at Milborne St Andrew and a repeat of that performance may be good enough to secure another victory. Clever des Assences won two races last season and ought to have come on from his seasonal debut at Milborne St Andrew in January and looks the main danger. Right Hand of God won a Restricted race at Charing but this looks a tougher contest. Some Operator was runner up at Brafield for owner/rider Daisy White and should give her another good ride. Vermillion Cliffs a son of Galileo won his last two races in 2023 and if primed for his seasonal debut should be on the short list.

The Restricted race looks an open contest with Charlton Horethorne winner Comonilean likely to have more improvement and may be able to follow up. Luke Price has entered both Lavorante and Mini Fortune, both winners of Maiden races at Garthorpe and Cocklebarrow respectively and his chosen representative must go close. Fine Investment was third in a Leicester Hunter Chase and this is a much lower grade. Boys Will Be Boys ran a much better race at Milborne St Andrew behind Glenmount and this ex Irish gelding is on the upgrade. Miltown Bridge was runner up in his Hunt race at Didmarton and may have place prospects.

The Maiden Conditions may give Keepitfrombecky a swift chance for recompense following her unseat at Cotley last week. Previously placed twice this season she has shown enough to win a race like this. Similar comments apply to Navegaon Gate a promising third at Badbury Rings and fourth at Charlton Horethorne and this Heidi Stevens Frankel gelding should find a race this season. Rocky Creed was placed in an Irish point last season and has pulled up on his two outings this season but is open to improvement. Crawter has place form this season whereas Will Biddick has entered the ex-Irish Talkin’Tennessee who will be making his English debut but has shown little to date.

The feature race the Mixed Open may see the appearance of the current winning most horse in the country Jay Bee Whiskey already with five victories to his name and a credit to his trainer Max Comley. He has improved on each of his outings and it will take a good rival to lower his colours. Hidor de Bersy . won a Conditions race at Chaddesley Corbett in December but has not been seen since. Humaniste gets on well with Will Biddick and was third at Milborne St Andrew. Will may however have the main threat in his stable to Jay Bee Whiskey in the form of Mr Glass  already the winner of two races at Chipley and Charlton Horethorne. Due to be the likely mount of Olive Nicholls this classy individual who had high class form under Rules may be the one to beat Jay Bee Whiskey.

The Maiden race has attracted an entry of fifteen horses with little form on show. Did Ja Ever was third on her English debut and was then carried wide by a loose horse at Cothelstone. With the stable in sparkling form, she or her stablemate Important Notice should be considered. Will Biddick has entered the unraced Southfield Scope who is well related including the prolific Southfield Theatre. Hogan was placed twice for Olly Murphy but has not been on a racecourse since May 2022 but now in the hands of Luke Price should not be discounted. Bigforyourboots was fancied on his English debut for new trainer Luca Morgan at Milborne St Andrew and although he only finished sixth an improvement can be expected. Beat The Poli was a good fourth at Larkhill in December but his two subsequent runs were not as promising.

The concluding four- and five-year-old Maiden race has received an entry of ten horses including Bud Succes who is also entered in the previous event. Chris Barber has a good record in these races and he has entered the unraced four-year-old Bow Fiddle Rock and the ex-Irish Dorans Cross a Blue Bresil gelding who pulled up in two Irish outings. Ahanaglogh was second in a five runner Irish Maiden in January and whilst it is difficult to evaluate this form, he may be good enough. Joyzain was fifth in an Irish Maiden and now with Luke Price he must be considered. Order of Progress did not show much on his debut for Harry Ryall but this ex-Tom Lacey inmate should not be discounted.
